Vijnana Keralam People’s Campaign: Advancing Kerala’s Knowledge Economy
The Vijnana Keralam Janakiya Campaign is a pivotal initiative in Kerala’s transition to a knowledge economy, aiming to align skill development and employment creation with the state’s developmental goals. Through structured programs and extensive public participation, it addresses the need for a skilled workforce and job opportunities.
Core Objectives
The campaign focuses on two key goals:
Job Seeker Mobilization and Job Fairs : Organising job fairs at various levels to identify and prepare job seekers for meaningful employment.
Skill Development Programs : Providing students with training tailored to their academic fields, ensuring their readiness for employment upon graduation.
Organisational Framework
The Kerala Knowledge Economy Mission (KKEM), under the Kerala Development and Innovation Strategic Council (K-DISC), leads this campaign through a robust and decentralised system:
State-Level Skill Council : Oversees and coordinates the campaign across Kerala.
District and Constituency-Level Skill Councils : Manage the campaign locally, ensuring efficient implementation.
Skill Centres at Colleges and Institutions : Serve as hubs for training and capacity building, directly engaging with students and other aspirants.
Coordination Teams :
At the district level, councils will include MLAs, local body representatives, district officials, youth organisations, and experts.
Each constituency will have dedicated coordinators under the guidance of MLAs, supported by a Project Management Unit (PMU).
Job stations at block, municipal, and corporation levels will manage area-specific activities.
Skill Development Initiatives
The campaign seeks to create a workforce equipped to meet the demands of the job market, through:
Training Programs :
5 Lakh Final-Year Students : Students from engineering colleges, arts and science institutions, polytechnics, ITIs, and vocational schools will receive skill training.
Non-Student Job Seekers : Short-term training for job fair attendees.
Pilot Phase (February-May 2025) :
A pilot project will train and secure employment for 20,000 students from selected institutions.
Integrated Programs :
Internship, apprenticeship, and on-the-job training opportunities will complement skill training programs.
Campaign Vision and Goals
By creating a structured and inclusive skill development ecosystem, the campaign aims to:
Enhance employability among Kerala’s youth.
Establish Kerala as a hub for skilled professionals.
Build confidence in the state’s education system as a pathway to global job opportunities.
A Collaborative Model for Success
The Vijnana Keralam Janakiya Campaign combines the efforts of state and local governments, educational institutions, and communities to build a sustainable model for skill development and employment generation.
